To All My Fishing Friends,
Well, another year has come and gone. Hope everyone is doing great. This year has been a dandy that we won’t soon forget with the gas prices going out of sight. I know everything is a little scary. Hopefully, things will be better in the future.
There have been no changes in the prices in trips to Mexico, which is great. The airlines are up just a little for trips to Mazatlan and Harlingen. Gas in Mexico, on the last report I received, was $3.00 for 4 liters which is a little over a gallon.
Lake Guerrero is below last year’s level by a few feet but still getting some rain. Unless a hurricane comes ashore in Mexico on the Gulf Coast, the rain should be about over. This may be good for the lake. The last 3 years the spawns were good with high water levels. The main problem was getting to the fish in the green brush. Toward the end of the season, good numbers and size were caught because the fisherman started fishing in the middle of the green bushes with heavy sinkers and lizards. This should be a great year for Guerrero with the water levels somewhat lower. This is the most economic trip you can take.
Lake El Salto and Comedero near Mazatlan are getting plenty of rain. Both lakes should be near normal starting the season in November. Salto made a come-back late in the season so things are looking up there with numbers and quality. Comedero should be another super year with quality fish and numbers. The average fisherman that goes to Comedero averages 50 to 75 a day with most bass weight over 3 lbs. That makes for a good trip and if you are there when the topwater bite is on, that makes it even better. Mazatlan is very easy to get to and last time I checked, a ticket from Little Rock was only up about 10% from last year.
Baccarac may be on another planet because the fishing is unbelievable. I plan to go in October. I missed going last year because of illness. Some of my friends went and their reports were super fishing and super BIG FISH. My good friend, Jimmie Manley, went the 1st week of April, and in 2 ½ days, Jimmie caught 14 bass over 10 lbs. His biggest was 12 lbs. 15 oz. He used Swim bait, Topwater and big jig. Chip Garner was there when Jimmie was and he reported between 60 and 70 over 10 lbs. in 5 days of fishing. He caught 90 % on the Storm Swimbait. That has to be some kind of record! Chip took pictures and records each fish.
As usual, many of the dates are already gone but there are some openings on all of the lakes. If you plan to make a trip this year, don’t wait. The time is now. Pick up the phone or e-mail me and I will see what is available. Hope everyone has a great year.
Bass Wishes,
Ricky
