Newsletters - Fall 2007

To All My Fishing Friends,

Well, another season has come to an end and it's time to start a new year. Lake Comedero and Guerrero were by far the top lakes. El Salto was a little disappointing this year with the numbers and big fish being way down. The local experts have no real good answers on why it was such an off year. Maybe it will come back next year, but no one knows for sure. I wouldn't recommend going there until things get better.

I have added another lake to my list and it has been great and should continue for the next few years. Lake Baccarac was stocked in 1978 with Florida strain largemouth bass. The lake is 25 miles long and 5 miles wide and is 30,000 acres at full pool. Bruce Knutson set a record with a 19.10 pound bass in 1993. Lake Baccarac Lodge offers direct charters to the lake. The plane lands 15 minutes from the water. The new lodge overlooks Baccarac and the surrounding scenery. There are air-conditioned, spacious rooms and excellent meals. The staff is there to meet every need. They have new 18 feet Crestliner boats with 60 hp Yamaha motors, depth finders, and trolling motors. The lodge will accommodate 32 fishermen.

Lake Guerrero has always been one of my favorites because that's where I caught my first 10-pound bass. On that same trip, my son caught 2 over 10 and a 13.10-pound monster! That trip was in 1987 and since that first trip, I have caught 15 to 20 over 10 pounds, with a 12 ½ being my largest from Lake Guerrero. The past 4 years the spawns have been good and they are continuing to stock Florida strain bass and shad into the lake. Guerrero is back to the point where I highly recommend giving it a try if you haven't been in several years. Every group that went this past year, with maybe one or two exceptions, has already booked back or getting dates together for another trip. Only about 60 fishermen went to Guerrero, and there were several between 10 lbs. and 14 ½ lbs. caught this past year. The lodge I use has been remodeled and has new boats, new motors, and is about half the cost of going to other Mexican lakes. The time to go is from mid Oct. to mid Dec. and then mid Feb. thru May. As I am writing this letter, hurricane Dean is bearing down on the Mexican coastline and that will make for a fantastic year once all the water is dumped on the lake and in the mountains. The spinnerbaits and topwater action will be awesome this fall and early spring.

Lake Comedero has over 600 booked at Speed's lodge. I have blocked the week of Jan. 11th thru 19th. This will allow 3 day, 4 day, and 7 day trips. The capacity is 24 fishermen. There are other dates but not many. Check with me and I will see what is available if that is not a good time for you.

I also have a new connection at Comedero. The price is basically the same but the big difference is that you stay at the lodge on your last day of fishing instead of fighting that trip back to Mazatlan on your final day of fishing. The camp only accommodates 10 fishermen but has very, very nice accommodations, much better service, and excellent food. You come in for lunch so this gives you a break to take a nap or just relax.

The lodge is just a couple hundred yards from the water. The dates you want to come in and out are up to you. With the popularity of Comedero this past season, don't wait too long or you may not get a spot.

Brazil is still the best fishing on the planet for adventure and seeing a different world of fishing for the mighty Peacock Bass. The boat that travels up and down the Amazon is the most modern and nicest boat on the river. The price for a week's fishing on the Amazon just keeps going up, so if you haven't been, now is the time. The trips are all booked for the coming year so you have to plan a year in advance. The cost of the Peacock trip is $4250 from Miami back to Miami plus air, which is running around $700 to $800. Tips run around $150.

All of the lakes I represent are filling up fast so when you receive this newsletter you better pick up the phone and get a date penciled down before it is too late. Hopefully, you will call me and not some other outfitter because you can count on my telling you the truth about the lake and not telling you to go when the fishing is not good. (The price is the same whether you book through the lodge owner or me.) I know there are good and bad trips, but I will try to give you my best advice. I have been doing this for 20 years. I have learned mucho! Have a great year. I look forward to hearing from you soon. This will be a great year to fish Mexico.

Bass Wishes,
Ricky Green
